Biological Drivers for Effortless Motivation

Motivation is the easy part.

I’m surprised more people aren’t onto this…

For the past four years of my life I’ve been deconstructing motivation and breaking it down into a formula.

The Psychological Formula for Motivation

A formula that works at the individual level.

At the Surface: The thing that motivates me, doesn’t motivate you, and certainly doesn’t motivate the next guy.

Deeper Down: There are similarities that are the driving force behind your motivational drivers at the surface. For example, if I am in a burning building, I will be motivated to run out as quickly as possible. If you’re in a building that is collapsing, yet not on fire, you will be motivated to run out as quickly as possible. Both of those tap into the underlying motivational driver of escaping immediate harm.

This article will outline various underlying motivational drivers that you can tap into for natural and effortless motivation.

The First Step for Effortless Motivation

Number 1 – You Need a Clear Positive Vision of the Future

I am living in a $2.8 Million Lake Tahoe Dream House.

I have $23.8 Million in my bank account.

I am the Founder & CEO of Limitless Academy, the world’s industry leader in business education, where we have a team of expert instructors who teach you from present-day real-world experience, for only a few hundred dollars.

Which is a hell of a lot better than a $175,000 college education.

“We are putting business schools out of business.”

That’s our company motto.

Which if we can put business schools out of business, wouldn’t that make our instructors smarter and more experienced than any business school instructor in the school that closed down?

We’re good at what we do.

And we make a lot of money doing it.

In addition to the revenue we generate from our business training programs, I have started, and/or invested in 14 different businesses, and I am a five-time best selling author (men’s personal development, dating/relationships, business, healthy eating, and spirituality).

The next book I publish will sell more than any of the rest combined, and I’ve been writing that for 10 years.

I also own a marketing company that brings in massive amounts of revenue for any product launch I do. Since my companies own the products, the margins are even higher.

I am engaged to the woman of my dreams, and we have the financial power, freedom, and abundance to go anywhere in the world and do anything we want. We are set for life.

We are both in really great shape, where we lift weights, go hiking, and we go running.

We also have a winter house in Scottsdale, Arizona, and a Luxury Condo in Colorado.

So yeah, there are a few fine-tuned adjustments in there; but that is my own personal positive vision of the future; which is extremely motivating, because of a few of the following reasons…

The Belief that It’s Possible

Without the belief that it’s possible (and especially the belief that it’s possible for you); this does not open up the emotional drivers to make this vision real.

In layman’s terms, if you don’t think you can do it, you probably won’t even try.

For myself, I’ve built internet businesses before, and I am confident in my path, my skills, and my abilities to do it all over again. I understand that there are skills I’m going to learn that I’ve never done before, but that’s where a growth and empowerment mindset come in.

If you’ve never done something like this before, read stories from people who have. I wrote a book on my journey of Making the Shift from Failure to Financial Freedom ( Link) while building my first business.

This belief opens up the doorway to allow the emotions to pour into that vision.

Filling the Vision with an Emotional Charge

Number 2 – Discover Your Unbreakable Motivational Desire

In my second book, I document some of the many struggles I’ve faced after my first business was up and running. Revenue dropped to zero multiple times, and I spent all my money, leaving me on the streets in a foreign country.

If you’re accustomed to reading books about success secrets, watching people drive up in their exotic cars to nice mansions, wearing nice clothes, with models everywhere; yes that’s part of the life.

But behind the scenes, building the business and dealing with the things that come up will be challenging for most, and most people will give up during those moments. Those are the things most get-rich-quick gurus don’t talk about. But it’s a real part of the journey.

The Cure for Happiness: Timeless Secrets to a Stress-Free Life (

So that’s why it’s so important to make sure your emotional driver is unbreakable. An emotional driver where the driving force behind creating your visions is more powerful than whatever your worst fear is.

My worst fear was to run out of money and be on the streets after I quit my job and took the leap to become a full time entrepreneur.

A few years later, that happened.

So if my fear of that happening was a 10/10, my emotional driver that pulls me forward towards that visions must me at least an 11/10.

The Unbreakable Motivational Driver

What do you want so bad that you would face your worst fears, jail time, and perhaps even death itself; without any hesitation to go after it?

It’s different for everybody.

Inside each and every one of our body’s are pre-programmed biological drivers designed to keep the human species alive.

  • Food Keeps Us Alive: Would you steal food if you were literally starving to death? Of course you would…
  • Sex Keeps the Species Alive: People will do crazy things for sex.
  • Unconditional Love: Would you go at any lengths to do anything for a loved one? A mother would sacrifice her life if it meant to keep her child safe (keep the human species alive).

These are biological drivers that are unbreakable. Where, if you look at the timeline of the human species from high above, over millions of years, there is nothing in the world stronger than these pre-programmed DNA drivers that keep us alive.

Now, let’s explore what some of the are:

#1 – Unconditional Love for Another

Years ago, I fell in love with this woman.

She’s literally the woman of my dreams. I can’t even describe to how incredibly amazing she is as a person. The unconditional love to be with someone I truly love was the driver ever since I met her.

So how did I apply this to motivation?

I was severely overweight on the day I met her and felt as if my weight was holding me back from the love I desire.

So I climbed a mountain every morning (in hail storms, lighting storms, the pouring rain, sun, whatever it was). In the past, I would let me emotions of being tired in the morning (9/10) be more powerful than my desire to lose weight (4/10).

But when I connected the thought of losing weight to being with her, the emotional driver was suddenly more powerful than the 9/10 tiredness.

The important thing here was that I connected the emotional driver within the action (of exercising), as opposed to the end result.

If I get out of bed this morning, and I go climb that 2,000 foot summit of the mountain that we hiked together, I would feel amazing because I loved spending time with her.

When you place your emotional driver at the end goal, it’s too far away, too weak, and doubt kicks in. But when you discover what the emotional driver is for you, the real secret to motivation is to place it within the action and not the result.

And that’s the emotional driver behind all of this.

But here’s the thing…

While most people would go through this program, build up the hype; and find out that I said the secret to unbreakable motivation is…unconditional love.

They would be dead wrong.

If the vision is the drinking glass; the emotion is the fuel that you fill the glass with before you light that mother f***er on fire and your motivation explodes through the roof, and sales start raining down as quickly as sharded glass.

The important thing here is to tap into your past experiences and realize which very specific emotional states actually propelled you to take action.

Can you think of a time in your life, very specific time, where you were absolutely and totally motivated?

It’s ok if you can think of more than one.

For me, it was unconditional love, for you; it’s most likely something else. Remember, unconditional love is the fuel that lights things on fire for me. If you think it’s BS; it’ll be like putting a lit match in water for you. It won’t work.

Which one lit the emotions in the past and caused you to move?

Unconditional love for another is one of them (tied into a mother doing anything to save her child). The biological instinct kicks in, and all logic is turned off.

#2 Sex Sells – A Biological Drive to Reproduce

All too often, young guys who want to be motivated in life waste their sexual energy in the wrong places…

Sexual energy is a very powerful emotion, and a very powerful driver of life (if not the most powerful). When you release it externally, your emotions are drained, and the emotional driving force in your body will be gone; leaving you lazy and unmotivated.

Think of it as energy. Like the battery on your phone goes from 100% down to 20% for the day.

You’ll probably want to take a nap and sleep. Now, this might be fine for some people, but if your’e a top performer in the real world, you’re going to want to know how to properly channel your sexual energy for motivation.

Sex keeps the human species alive, which if you were God (or evolution, or whatever you believe in), and decided to create a species with the goal to survive forever; wouldn’t it make sense to have the most powerful human driver to motivate people to lose any form of logic and make babies?

Dane Cook (comedian) did a standup comedy routine once that talked about how men get so horny that they would have unprotected sex with a women, even if she directly said to him, “I have an active STD right now.”. The guys would justify it in their heads somehow that ‘odds are in their favor’, and do it anyway. Which is a standup comedy routine, but it has truth to it. I know people will say no, but pretty much everyone who is turned on enough, the logical rational filter in the mind turns off, and they will do anything to…make babies.

Can you see how crazy powerful this emotion is? It’s like their body is a zombie on autopilot that they will not stop until they accomplish their mission, and would die for it. This is because making babies is more important to keep the human species alive, than any individual human life.

This is used in sales and marketing all the time, “sex sells”.

Now, imagine if you used an emotional motivator this fu*king powerful in terms of motivation for business? Imagine how much you would be literally unstoppable, and how productive you would be. God gave you this sexual energy as the fundamental building block to keep the entire human species alive…

And I’m about to teach you how to use it to make lots of money.

Get ready for the lesson that comes next, but for now…

Can you see how people tell you “sex sells”, but this visually absurd way of picturing it takes it’s meaning to a whole new level, and you can see things more clearly?

I’m sure you’re probably using this at a lesser level in your marketing and sales, but…when you turn it around on yourself, and embrace it’s power to its full potential, you will have this unbreakable level of motivation.

Now, that’s powerful.

In a future lesson, I’m going to tell you exactly how to do it, but first, we must deconstruct the other powerful emotional drivers of motivation.

#3 Hunger – Are You Literally Hungry Right Now?

For me, the answer is no, I’m not. I just ate some big protein cookie.

But I remember the other year I went hiking out in the Rocky Mountains, and by the time I made it to the peak of one of the tallest mountains in the region, I was wearing shorts, the ground up there was still freezing cold and covered in snow, despite being 65 down in the city; and I didn’t bring any water with me that day.

Smart move, Andrew…

I was also about 50 pounds overweight, so I obviously made some poor decisions and pushed myself to the extreme that day.

But on the way down, I was getting seriously dehydrated.

I had no water, and I was at least 2, maybe 3 hours away from my car. I was reaching one of those dangerous levels of dehydration too, still near the summit.

A hiker started coming up and I saw a small little pint-sized water bottle strapped to the side of his backpack.

I stopped him, told him I was out of water, and I gave him a Free Chipotle Burrito coupon ($7.48 value at the time – close to $10 if you add guac), in exchange for something I could drink out of my faucet in the form of tap water, for free.

You see, when you are literally starving and literally dehydrated, your logical mind shuts off, your body goes into survival mode, and you will do anything for a glass of water.

You can thank god for this one too, since these emotions you already have are very good for motivation…

Can you see how Hunger is another one of those emotions that keeps you alive, you are biologically tapped into it (like me trading my Chipotle Burrito coupon to the guy for water – I had no resistance to motivate myself to ask him (even with a little shyness at the time).

How to Put this to Practical Use

Every morning, I wake up, open my laptop, and get into doing the most important thing of the day before I eat anything. I normally don’t eat until 1:00.

Aside from using this strategy to Optimize Focus, Concentration, and Energy Levels (another blog post), what this does is places my biological driver on the other side of the task; and I make a habit of this.

  • When you do your work, your food is waiting for me on the other side (hunger).
  • When I got out of bed and went to the mountain to exercise at 6:30 in the morning, the love of my life is waiting for me in the parking lot (unconditional love and connection).
  • When you work hard all week, and go out to the clubs in the weekend; some baby-making time will be waiting for you on the other side (sex sells).

How can you place these existing biological drivers directly on the other side of the task? The closer it is, the better.

Can you see how this works now?

In the well-known sales and marketing book CA$HVERTISING: How to Use More than 100 Secrets of Ad-Agency Psychology to Make Big Money Selling Anything to Anyone by Drew Eric Whitman – he talks about The Life Force 8 – which are the bullet points of some of the things I talked about here today in more detail.

If I can use analogies from our caveman ancestor days, you’ll see how these are pre-built drivers designed to keep us alive.

  1. Survival, enjoyment of life, life extension – Duh.
  2. Enjoyment of food and beverages – Keeps us alive.
  3. Freedom from fear, pain, and danger – Pull your hand out of the dangerous campfire. We move away from pain.
  4. Sexual companionship – Repopulate the human species.
  5. Comfortable living conditions – Warm shelter keeps us alive during cold winters.
  6. To be superior, winning, keeping up with the Joneses –
  7. Care and protection of loved ones – Mother would do anything for her children
  8. Social approval – If you’re kicked out of the caveman tribe village, you won’t have access to warm shelter, food, safety, and resources…and you’ll die.

Can you see how luxury car commercials use Social Approval in their ads (unconsciously) to motivate people to act (buy)?

The Simple Solution

Think of your positive vision of the future, and a way to believe that it’s possible for you (it is with enough hard work and persistence).

Think about what you emotionally desire more than anything else in this life…something more emotionally powerful than your worst fear.

How can you supercharge that vision with that emotion?

Now, break the larger vision down into one action step you can take right now…the first step to get there.

How can you place ONE specific biological driver directly on the other side of the action you need to take?

  • When you do your work, your food is waiting for me on the other side (hunger).
  • When I got out of bed and went to the mountain to exercise at 6:30 in the morning, the love of my life is waiting for me in the parking lot (unconditional love and connection).
  • When you work hard all week, and go out to the clubs in the weekend; some baby-making time will be waiting for you on the other side (sex sells).

Things like that…

The Advanced Solution:

There are different mindset coaching tools I use that actually supercharge the task I need to accomplish with the feelings I would get from having that goal.

All of a sudden, climbing that mountain provided me with the same feeling of love that I got from the women I fell in love there. I was biologically and emotionally craving the action I needed to take (after previously resisting exercise for years on end).

Utilizing these motivational strategies (and about 20 different ones), I deconstructed motivation into a formula, and accomplished the following:

  1. Build an iOS app company up to 1,300,000+ downloads.
  2. Published three books.
  3. Build three businesses.
  4. Overcame my fears of quitting my corporate job, traveling the United States for two years, and then traveling the world.

I have used these same strategies and formulas to help other entrepreneurs do the same.

Through Limitless Academy, I offer coaching services (free Skype, WhatsApp or Phone consultation available) and an NLP Practitioner Training Program (self-study) to teach you how to do the same.

My email is if you have any questions.
